Doug Levitt Looks For Real Stories Over Numbers In ‘The Greyhound Diaries’

‘The Greyhound Diaries’ author and musician Doug Levitt has recently been looking to explain the problems of poverty he has uncovered during his bus riding artistic project that has so far lasted over a decade. Levitt has created two EP’s, a book, and performed at some of the most famous venues in the U.S. to raise awareness of the problems of poverty in America; the issue of poverty is one Levitt argues has been largely ignored by the media who rarely look outside the major metropolitan areas for their news and national narratives.

Doug Levitt did not set out on ‘The Greyhound Diaries’ project expecting it to become a life changing experience, but was instead hoping to find inspiration by taking a six week bus journey that has now become a cause he is often seen as the face of. On the travels he has made across the U.S., Doug Levitt believes many social factors can be blamed for the poverty large swathes of the U.S. face, including the fact that a minimum wage job for a single parent does little to allow the individual to escape the problems they face paying their bills and inspiring their children in the future.

Doug Levitt has created many different forms of media from his many journeys across the U.S., including many live performances that take in spoken word stories of his experiences created from his discussions with people riding buses through economic necessity. It was during his time in London, U.K. that Doug Levitt found the inspiration to return to music and look to bring awareness to social issues he felt his work as a journalist was not reflecting.

One area Doug Levitt believes is a major problem for many living in poverty is the growth in the use of the Internet and Smartphones to make business connections, Levitt reveals in 2005 he saw an average of three laptop computers during each journey and has not seen the number rise over the following decade. Obesity, disease, and mental health issues are all major problems linked to poverty levels that Levitt believes must be faced if the future of the U.S. is to change for the better.

Lung Disease Suffers Find Hope in Stem Cell Therapy

Chronic lung disease such as COPD, interstitial lung disease, and idiopathic interstitial disease also known as pulmonary fibrosis affect people both physically and mentally. The quality of life is substantially decreased as these diseases progress, but the Lung Institute now has a way to help those affected other than just treat the symptoms.

As the leading treatment center for lung disease, the Lung Institute, up until recently could only offer their patients help in treating their symptoms to make everyday life a little easier. Common tasks for someone with chronic lung disease become very difficult and as the physical symptoms progress the patient’s mental health declines also. Often the treatments used will produce side effects that can be difficult to deal with for the patient making their illness more mentally challenging.

The good news according to now for patients suffering from these chronic lung diseases is that the

Lung Institute has discovered and is using a new treatment called Stem Cell Therapy. The Lung Institute offers these treatments for all major pulmonary illness. With the use of Stem Cell Therapy, the progression of these illnesses can be significantly slowed down, and the bodies natural healing process helps to alleviate symptoms of the lung disease.

The Lung Institutes stem cell treatments us adult or autologous stem cells as they are called taken from the patient. These cells are obtained either from bone marrow or a blood sample. Once that is done, the cells are harvested and separated to be reintroduced into the patient’s body through an IV injection. These cells will then begin the healing process of the damaged tissues.

Why this therapy works so well for patients with chronic lung disease is because as the stem cells are reintroduced to the patient’s blood stream, they flow through the heart’s right chamber and then directly into the lungs. Once in the lungs, they are trapped in a pulmonary chamber where they can begin their work of healing the areas affected by the lung disease. The treatment of these chronic diseases with Stem Cell Therapy brings hope to so many people who suffer from them now and in the future. Learn more about stem cell, visit
