If you tend to pay any attention to college basketball, and let’s be clear — most people do, you are probably aware of Yanni Hufnagel and his work with the Nevada Wolf Pack. Hufnagel may not be a household name but he has made serious strides in his career, transitioning from an assistant coach at the University of Oklahoma all the way to his new job as an assistant coach at Nevada. Among Hufnagels huge career highlights is his work with NBA All Star Blake Griffin, whom Yanni Hufnagel is singlehandedly credited with being a huge guiding force. Hufnagels career arc has been fascinating to watch and it definitely bears paying some attention to.

Looking back, we can see that Yanni Hufnagel has come a long way and looks like he is going to go even further as his career progresses. At only 34 years old Hufnagel is following the Brad Stevens approach by jumping into coaching at a young age. The truth is that Hufnagel has always been fascinated with coaching and he’s been paying attention to the game of basketball since he was a child. As a little kid from Scarsdale, NY Yanni Hufnagel would consume every single book on coaching and the game of basketball that he could find. He would then demonstrate various strategies that he learned with his own basketball figurines.

Of course, Hufnagel wasn’t happy just making basketball his part time hobby. Instead, Hufnagel would go on to become a public broadcasting for the local teams in Scarsdale before heading to Cornell University. At Cornell, Hufnagel acted as a basketball manager and he parlayed that gig into an internship with the New Jersey Nets. After graduating Hufnagel realized that he was on the fast track to success and he was soon interviewing for a job ib Oklahoma. The rest, as they say, is history.
